Dauntless Required Reading!

Image Detail

#TeamDauntless Street Team Dauntless Required Reading

For this week’s assignment we were asked to blog about one of three topics.
Image Detail
I chose what the Dauntless required reading list would be.

1.       The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

·         Who is braver than Katniss Everdean , maybe Tris?  Haha But this series has a ton of action and courage displayed throughout. With the premise being kids sent to fight to the death. I’d say it is pretty Dauntless.

2.       The Maze Runner by James Dashner

·         This book was crazy. Boys are sent through a tunnel to live outside a maze crawling with mechanical robots that will kill them. So the maze runners go through the maze searching for clues to try and get out without getting killed that is.

3.       The Lord Of the Flies by William Golding

·         A novel that you will have to read sometime throughout high school involving little boys around 5 to 12  deserted on an island in the middle of the Pacific. Most of the boys go savage and they end up killing each other. But the brave Jack tries to keep them civilized and get home.

4.       The Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling

·         If there has ever been a book character who was more brave than Harry freaking Potter I would love to know. With the Dark Lord who killed his parents out to kill him in almost every book he had a lot of fear but was so courageous that he was able to overcome that and still fight for what was right.

5.       I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

·         When the scary aliens that destroyed your planet are out to get you and you have to fight to stay alive not sure who to trust at every turn I think this book would very Dauntless.

Divergent- Book Review

By- Veronica Roth

I had seen this book on Barnes & Noble and saw it compared to two very good books I read called The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner. So I got the book but never picked it up. As I began getting really into reading book blogs, I saw so many people talking about Divergent. Mainly, OnceUponATwilight
(I love their blog go check it out) I had also recently been reading many dystopian novels and decided to give this one a try.

So where is the summary if you haven't read this book and feel like checking it out
Amazon Description-

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

My Review-

I thought the premise of the book was so original and creative. The idea of sectioning people off my how they think and their personality rather than race or religion was so intriguing to me.  This book sucked me in right away. I really connected well with Tris (Beatrice). Her inner struggles on whether to stay with her family or transfer were really touching and inspiring.

When Beatrice switched to Dauntless right before you could see her hesitation you could see where Divergent was coming from. I liked the thought that someone couldn’t just think one way but feel in several ways if that makes sense. I thought it was so funny how the Dauntless kids jumped from the train but after thinking about it sounds so cool and would be a great adrenaline rush.

I loved Tris’ bravery when she jumped first you could start to see that she really had some Dauntless in her. Meeting Four or rather Tobias I thought right away there was going to be some romance. He singled her out and was tougher on her than the rest but for her own good because he knew she could do it. They are so cute! I love when Tobias told her that being selfless and being brave aren’t that different and I totally got that.

The end was so not what I was expecting I had to go back and reread apart of it. I almost cried when both her parents died for her.  Also when she stood between Marcus and Tobias that was just epic.

So I can’t wait to see what happens next in the sequel Insurgent which comes out in less than a month.

Also which Faction would you be? I’m #TeamDauntless
