Divergent- Book Review

Divergent- Book Review

By- Veronica Roth

I had seen this book on Barnes & Noble and saw it compared to two very good books I read called The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner. So I got the book but never picked it up. As I began getting really into reading book blogs, I saw so many people talking about Divergent. Mainly, OnceUponATwilight
(I love their blog go check it out) I had also recently been reading many dystopian novels and decided to give this one a try.

So where is the summary if you haven't read this book and feel like checking it out
Amazon Description-

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

My Review-

I thought the premise of the book was so original and creative. The idea of sectioning people off my how they think and their personality rather than race or religion was so intriguing to me.  This book sucked me in right away. I really connected well with Tris (Beatrice). Her inner struggles on whether to stay with her family or transfer were really touching and inspiring.

When Beatrice switched to Dauntless right before you could see her hesitation you could see where Divergent was coming from. I liked the thought that someone couldn’t just think one way but feel in several ways if that makes sense. I thought it was so funny how the Dauntless kids jumped from the train but after thinking about it sounds so cool and would be a great adrenaline rush.

I loved Tris’ bravery when she jumped first you could start to see that she really had some Dauntless in her. Meeting Four or rather Tobias I thought right away there was going to be some romance. He singled her out and was tougher on her than the rest but for her own good because he knew she could do it. They are so cute! I love when Tobias told her that being selfless and being brave aren’t that different and I totally got that.

The end was so not what I was expecting I had to go back and reread apart of it. I almost cried when both her parents died for her.  Also when she stood between Marcus and Tobias that was just epic.

So I can’t wait to see what happens next in the sequel Insurgent which comes out in less than a month.

Cinder- Book Review

Image Detail

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1)- Book Review

By Marissa Meyer

Good Reads Summary

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

My Review-

Cinder was a strange and different take on your average retelling of the Cinderella story. It was so sad when Peony got infected. You could tell how much Cinder loved her throughout the whole story. I loved the romance that began to form with Cinder and Kai, I want to see more of that in the coming books. They would be perfect for each other. The whole novel I knew there was something off with the doctor and Cinder's back story.

After they began talking about Princess Selene I knew it had to be Cinder why else would it have been done. Plus I want Cinder to be with Kai so that would just be another girl to get in the way. I felt so bad when you find out the Doctor was Lunar and his daughter was a shell which is why he wanted to help Cinder so much.

I really hated Levana, major bitch. She controls her people with mind control, makes herself appear beautiful too. She is trying to destroy Earth. And now she wants to kill Cinder. In the next book I really want Cinder to kill her or doing something bad to her lol.

So that was my review, if you read Cinder comment below and tell me what you thought of it. Also the next book for revew is Divergent. I already read it was amazing. Team Dauntless!

Paranormalcy- Book Review

Paranormalcy- Book Review

It is by Kiersten White

Summary

Paranormalcy follows the main character Evelyn who lives at the IPCA the International Paranormal Control Association. This idea reminds me of the show Sanctuary of Syfy which is great by the way. They detain and neuter paranormals like vampires, werewolves, and fairies. Evelyn has lived most of her life there working for them. She is special though because she can see through glamour that hides the true identity of a paranormal. She is being stalked by a fairy for what reason she is unsure. Someone is killing paranormals. A mysterious paranormal named Lend comes to IPCA who can change what he looks like. Evie feels oddly attracted to him. He makes her realize that she might not be human and that there a much bigger things in store for her.

My Review-

I would recommend this book it is a great story that has romance, fantasy, and adventure. I really loved the plot. Evie was a great character. In the book she was obsessed with a show called Easton Heights which reminds me a lot of Secret life of the American Teenager. I also found it funny how a girl who never went to school thought lockers were the coolest things ever. I loved her relationship with Lend they were so good for each other. Her power was really cool and different. This whole story’s plot line was very creative it had different elements that I have read about but put together was a great story.

Delirium- Book Review ( So Cool!)

Delirium- Book Review ( So Cool!)

The book that I just finished was Delirium by Lauren Olivier. The idea behind this book is weird but oddly cool. The setting is a futuristic dystopian society where they have considered love a disease that cause all the bad in the world. So what did they do find the cure for love. At 18 you get cured and then assigned a partner for marriage.

Here is the book trailer if this is something you feel like reading because the spoilers start now.

Spoilers-

I loved the quote used that Love hurts while your in it and hurts while your not. I just felt like it made you understand why people would think that way.  I loved Lena and Alex's relationship it really made Lena a better person. I honestly felt bad for her because her father was dead and her mother supposedly committed suicide but she didn't and everyone kept it a secret. You can sympathize with her because she never knew of love being anything but bad. Alex giving up his life for Lena to be free really shows you the extent of what love could be.

When she says at the end "I will try to resist there are many of us out there who refuse to stop believing who refuse to come to earth who love in a world without walls who love into hate into refusal against hope and without fear."

That made me want to cry especially when she said they couldn't take away their love. I think there might be a sequel and if there is I have to read it.

I loved this book and would totally recommend it.

The Hunger Games Movie -Review (Amazing)

The Hunger Games Movie -Review (Amazing)

I did read the book before seeing the movie which does make my understanding of it a lot better. I actually read it twice so that I could remember all the tributes names.

I felt that the movie was a pretty good interpretation of the book, there were some changes that I didn't like but we will get to that.

What I liked-
  • I loved how the scene of Peeta giving Katniss the bread was spread out I don't know why but I thought how they unveiled it was good.
  • I also liked how Katniss bought the pin and gave it to her sister it brought a little more depth and meaning to it.
  • The visuals were really stunning especially the capitol. I loved the girl on fire dress I was afraid it wasn't going to be done well but it was perfect!
  • Cinna was simply amazing that is all I have to say.
  • The cornucopia was cool I pictured a giant golden cornucopia unrealistic lol but this made more sense.
What I didn't like-
  • They didn't explain the mocking jay. How it refereed to the rebellion and really mocked the capitol.
  • Peeta lost his leg at the end of the book from the games and it really impacts Catching Fire, I know that is a weird thing to find wrong, okay I have problems but he needed to loose a leg.
  • Katniss straight out tells him it was all an act that she didn't love him (She kinda did though) That is how the book ends which makes you want to read the sequel so bad to see how they move on.
  • They didn't talk about Avox's which was talked a lot about because that is what happens to the traitors. Which at the end becomes a fear of Katniss' also her and Gale see them in the beginning.
  • Also they never mentioned the 13th district which is foreshadowing!
I loved this book and movie. If you only saw the movie and didn't read the book go read it and the sequel Catching Fire.

FanFiction

Fanfiction

Now for those of you who have never heard of fanfiction here is what it is: sites that have stories dedicated to the characters we love from movies, tv shows, and books that we just can't get enough of. Do you ever hate when you watch a movie and there is a cliff hanger but no sequel than wriet fanfiction to tell what you think should have happened. Or if a show gets canceled go a head and finish the plot the way you thought it was going to go. Put your two favorite characters together. Change things like if in New Moon maybe you think it would be better if Edward never came back to she was much older. Or just change the whole thing but keep the likeness of the charcters, Damon Katherine Stefan and Elena go to Vegas by the end of the trip who end up with who!

The point is that it is all up to you sometimes as a writer my self it is hard to create a plot you love but as a writer you are always thinking what if. And even if you love to read there are some amazing stories out there just waiting to be read.

Weekly Review~The Vampire Diaries

Image Detail

The Vampire Diaries
So I love everything and anything vampire related I am a die hard fan lol. Ever since Buffy the Vampire Slayer I have been hooked. So that leads me to another blog series I will be adding in. A weekly episode review of the Vampire Diaries which is on the CW. Which is based off of a novel by L.J Smith ( who also wrote the secret circle another show on the cw) that I have also read if you would like a review on it just comment below.  It is currently on the 3rd season but there is plenty of time to catch up it is an addicting show even if you don't like vampires, werewolves, and witches. There is a ton of drama including love triangles, family drama (it is hard to keep up with the family entanglements), and they are in high school most of them anyway which is hard to remember since they hardly go.)

You never know what you are gonna get. The writers love to leave you hanging and guess about what will happen.

I will post a review on this weeks episode on Friday!

Everneath- Book Review (Loved it)

Image Detail

Everneath by Brodi Ashton Check out her blog! http://brodiashton.blogspot.com/p/everneath.html

Here is the summary of the book from her site if you have never heard of this book before!

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen

So I loved it and I would totally recommend it and if you haven't read it and want to don't read on!
Check out the book trailer

Now Review Time YaY!****Spoilers****

I really loved this modern take on Greek mythology in such a different way. Much like Beastly it put a unique spin on a well known story. It references the Hades Persephone myth if you don't know it google it lol! I loved the little love triangle going on between Cole, Nikki, and Jack. Throughout the novel I kind of wanted her to go with Cole I know that would mean giving up her soul but I genuinely felt he loved her in some twisted way. But by the end of the novel I began to really love Jack.

So omg the end I kind of saw it coming but didn't want it to. I would really love a sequel to happen to find a way to get Jack out of the Everneath but also for Nikki to fall for Cole. I am glad though that Nikki didn't go under because I felt so bad for her little brother who would have lost both his mother and sister.

I loved this book and would love to know what you thought of it!

What's On My Nook? The Hunger Games, Evermore, & The Power of Six!

Image Detail
This series will be every so often about the books I just finished or in the middle of currently. At the moment I have been reading so much that it would be really hard to make reviews.

The Hunger Games
So who hasn't heard of The Hunger Games? I can't wait for the movie to come out on March 23rd.
It is set in a dystopian world where North America no longer exists but it is 12 districts ruled by a capitiol. The story follows Katniss Everdean from district 12 the poorest one of all who volunteers to take the place of her sister.

Evermore
Is apart of the series called the immortals it follows a girl named Ever whos parents and younger sister die in a car crash . She moves in with her aunt in Cali, Ever goes from being a blonde cheerleader to a hoodie wearing loner haunted by her past. But the kicker is that she sees peoples auras and the dead, her sister comes to visit her. A new hot mysterious guy Daemen comes to school and starts a relationship with Ever but as wierd things start occuring . People go missing, her friend Haven gets in to the occult with Daemens friend, and why does Daemen's story of where he has lived not add up?

Book- Silence

Silence By Becca Fitzpatrick
Recently I finished reading the book Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick. This is the 3rd installment of the young adult (YA) series. The 1st book is Hush, Hush and the 2nd is Crescendo. That follows the character Nora who discovers her family history and how it ends up intertwining with Fallen Angels and Nephilim (children of human and fallen angel). She meets the mysterious Patch who she is unsure if she should hate him or love him.  The big conflict in the story doesn’t have anything to do with the impending love story but that on the Jewish week of Cheshvan Fallen Angels can take over a Nephilim’s body so that they can feel the touch of others and what does this have anything to do with the main character Nora, just go and read Hush, Hush.
Silence is a great book and I would reccomend this series to anyone!
*Also for anyone that was wander on Becca Fitzpatrick’s  site she announced a 4th book to be released in Fall 2012

Book Covers- Aren't the covers amazing!
 silence by becca fitzpatrick
This is the Hush,Hush Book trailer for anyone who wants a better idea of the story!
******Spoilers******* (Don’t read unless you want to know the plot of Silence)
So for anyone who read Crescendo you know that right at the end when you think that Patch and Nora are going to live happily ever after Hank catches them and kidnaps them. So Silence begins with Nora waking up in a cemetery with no memory of the previous books events. She doesn’t know who Patch is or her kidnapper. From the last book she found out Hank was her dad and guess what he is dating her mom now. Oh the irony! So the first person to tell her about Patch was Marci who lied saying he was her boyfriend and she wanted a necklace. Nora keeps meeting Jev which as the reader knows is Patch’s real name but obviously she doesn’t. And the plot thickens when Scott comes back and tells her about the army Hank is creating to fight Fallen Angels. Jev (Patch) reveals himself and shows her the memories she forgot by touching his wings. Long story short she kills Hank which causes her to become leader of his army because she made a vow to save her mom. The war is inevitable whether she likes it or not. All she knows is that she has Patch.
Okay so summary aside I really enjoyed this book I read it in less than 3 days and couldn’t help thinking about it. The one thing that made me so frustrated was her memory loss because the reader knows what she doesn’t and her choices were so stupid sometimes. I also couldn’t call Patch Jev in my head Patch is patch that is it. I love Nora and Patch’s relationship.
